In The Battle Between Ocracies, Sally Kohn ( Strategist for the Campaign for Community Change) cautions that electing a progressive as president is one thing, but winning the country back from powerful corporations is quite another. We may have elected Barack Obama president, but make no mistake about it: there is a fierce contest underway to decide who will rule the United States of America---corporations or the people.Kohn notes that while Team Democracy has won some battles in the long arc of American history (including, 40 hour workweek, public transportation, integrated schools, Social Security), Plutocrats have largely been in control. Even in this period of heightened resentment towards Wall Street, Plutocrats orchestrated a $1 Billion taxpayer "bail-out" of their friends with no strings attached, no transparency or accountability.
"[I]t's time to make our economy and our country finally work for all of us," she writes, "including average Americans---investing in our social safety net, strengthening employee bargaining power, securing universal health care, reviving our public schools and universities, making sure every family has a roof over their head."
However, Kohn cautions, "we're not going to get there without organizing to demand the change the people need."
She's right. So, let the organizing and demanding begin!

Isn't the bailout more like 1 trillion dollars?
Plutocracy is becoming more like plutarchy.
Michael Moore has a new movie coming out called "Capitalism: A Love Story" but it appears more to be a hate story. The main theme of his movie appears to be "Capitalism Is Evil". However, since much has to do with how capitalism is practiced to make it good or evil for most people, a more appropriate theme should be "Plutocracy Is Evil" because it is undemocratic since freedom, liberty, democracy and capitalism are very traditional American ideals.
