Glenn Beck: Rodeo Clown
“I’m a rodeo clown.” Glenn Beck
Glenn Beck has long been a performer. His roots are in comedy — he spent years as a morning radio disc jockey — and continues to perform comedy on stages across the country.
Even thoughtful conservatives believe Beck is a clown. Here's conservative writer David Frum on Beck’s success: “[He's] a product of the collapse of conservatism as an organized political force, and the rise of conservatism as an alienated cultural sensibility.”
Again, Beck on Beck:
“I say on the air all time, ‘if you take what I say as gospel, you’re an idiot.’ ”

Extreme GOP Makeover -- NOT!
They countered the Obama Democrats with the charade of a young, diverse and hip GOP (i.e., Michael Steele, Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal and Eric Cantor), but their own members didn't buy having a Black man, a woman, a Jew and an Indo-American as the face of America's reactionary party.
The corporate braintrust/lobbyists then revved up media wingnuts Hannity, Beck, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Savage, Coulter, Malkin, Levine, but that ain't working either.
So, the badly atrophied party has turned to a new set of politicos to lead it to out of the desert and back into power: Newt Gingrich, Dick Cheney, Dick Armey and Roger Ailes.

GOP Hate Game
Empty of better ideas -- of any ideas -- of how to remain relevant, the reactionary wing of the conservative movement has chosen to quit faking respectability and get back to doing what they do best: cranking up the hate to eleven. This is the week we have lived:
- A week when Texas Governor Rick Perry -- a man with presidential aspirations -- gets comfortable being flippant about the idea secession, raising the specter of both the anti-civil rights movement and the Civil War.
- A week when Texas Republican State Rep. Betty Brown (what is it with Texas?) told a hearing on voter registration that if Asians wanted to avoid problems at the polls they needed to change their names to something that's "easier for us to deal with."
- A week when Illinois Republican Congressman Mark Kirk said he thought the people of Illinois "are ready to shoot" anyone who's going to raise taxes.
- A week when the Caucasian Stepin Fetchit Glenn Beck -- which is more of a slam against Lincoln Perry than it is Glenn -- thought it was humorous to take on the guise of our president and pantomime him pouring gas on the average citizen before setting a match to him.
- This is the week when even his cover as GOP Chairman couldn't outweigh his blackness and Michael Steele was unwelcome at the not-even-slightly-white-fright based tea parties where signs stoking the fears of WHITE SLAVERY were as prevalent as any saying: I LOVE AMERICA.
- And this was the week where Minority Leader John Boehner's only take away from the Bush-authorized DHS report on the threat of extremist violence was that it was offensive to American soldiers.

Wingnut Explains Bachmann
Ask a Wingnut is a new feature on Salon.com in which a conservative tries to explain conservatism to normal people. The anonymous writer is said to be a former Bush official and goes by the pseudonym 'Glenallen Walken'.Dick Cheney?

In the current issue Walken attempts to explain Minnesota's Michele Bachmann, the congresswoman who seeks the kliegs to spew wingnut talking points.
A favorite of media wingnuts Hannity/Beck/Limbaugh, Bachmann once claimed that Barack Obama is more dangerous than Osama bin Laden! More recently, she warned about Obama re-education camps for kids and, believe or not, asked Minnesotans to arm themselves in light of the Obama administration's plan to fix the economic mess of the Bush regime.
Unconvincingly, Walken tries very hard to airbrush Bachmann by suggesting that her comments: 1) were taken out of context; 2) are no more offensive than what less scrutinized politicians say; and 3) are normal use of rhetorical hyperbole.
That may all be true -- and Bachmann, as Walken suggests, is no more loony than a certain African American politician and former member of Congress who blamed AIDS on a government consipracy. The difference though is that Republicans and wingnut media hold Bachman up as a representative of the conservative cause, while the Democrats booted theirs out of office and out of the party.
Big difference!
The good news for Democrats is that Republicans are now represented by luminaries such as Michele 'plutocrat revolutionary' Bachmann, Sarah 'hockey mom' Palin, Bobby 'exorcist' Jindal, Mitt 'How's my tan?' Romney, Newt 'contract on America II' Gingrich, John 'ditching planes' McCain, Saxby 'negroes are organizing!' Chamblis, Mark 'stimulate this' Sanford, and Eric 'yes we Cant'or.

Jon Stewart: FOX, Hannity and Limbaugh Unhinged
Jon Stewart nails Wingnuts--Fox's Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly, plus Rush Limbaugh--for their ridiculous, over-the-top attacks on Barack Obama's 1st day as President. It's so clear that these guys are living their worse nightmare: a Black man in the Whitehouse.
I'm increasingly convinced that the FOX kennel of foaming junkyard dogs is good. The more exposure they get, the more decent Americans are repulsed by their fearmongering and reactionary politicizing of the news. Their anti-democratic, fascist agenda becomes more apparent. While FOX has 3MM regular "cool-aid" drinkers, the other 250MM American adults increasingly flip past the foul channel.
